I was extremely happy yst cos i got permission to go to supreme court with sharan and edy. They've been following this specific case recently cos apparently how the judge eventually rules this case will determine whether some major policies in this industry will remain or be modified. Took me a lot of courage to ask him but i really wanted to experience it, so i went to ask (risking the embarrassment of rejection and having to stay in the office hahaha). I mean it's not a big deal cos anyone can enter the court anytime, but i knew i wouldn't go on my own randomly next time. And idk when the next opportunity will come, if it ever comes. So i'm glad i asked and that he allowed after letting him "think about it". Not easy to get approval eh hahaha.
Went for lunch at dayi restaurant (some super-cheena place haha) with matt and the temps (mt, jh, xr, sq). Matt treated them cos it was their last day. Sq and i are not in their team and it wasn't our last day so we paid for our own lunch haha. Returned to office after lunch:
Edy: "Oh you can go with us later."
Me: "Really? Are you sure you won't get into trouble or sth?"
Edy: "Err no why would i get into... Wait, are you thinking of doing something stupid there? The police will shoot you!!"
HAHAHA.
Anw i was really excited. HAHA i know i sound like some p1 kid relating his first excursion to the zoo or sth but that's how i really felt yst. HP decided to join us too (she had never been to court previously). Anddd alvin went along too! I think he owes me a 'thank you' lol! Anw, we walked to the supreme court (surprisingly near our office) - that was when i found out alvin attends sac 11.15 chi service! Haha small world.
Went through the security check. Didn't have much time to take in the interior design/ architecture of the building but it's pretty modern. I told edy the toilet doors are cool and he asked sharan to bring me out shopping more often lol. Before we entered the courtroom, edy was telling us first-timers how we're supposed to bow to the judge when we enter/ leave the place. Good thing he told us (ok maybe just me) haha. Anw to put it simply, this case involves a policyholder who is unhappy because the interest rates stated in the bips when she first bought the policy are not guaranteed and she's arguing that it should be guaranteed. And the company involved (im not sure about all these law stuff so i better not mention the name. can't afford to get sued hahaha) is now suing her for defamation.
The cross-examination took place and i tried to catch whatever i can. Quite comprehensible until the co's representing lawyer brought up some law suit that this lady made previously against another party. It became quite technical (all the law terms) but all the more interesting. Then the judge called for 5-10 mins break, during which edy tried to answer my questions. That's the good thing about going with someone who has experience/ actually knows the details of the case. We all agreed the lady should engage the assistance of her interpreter since she clearly can't speak fluently/ phrase her questions properly.
"Court stand!" The judge walked in, we bowed and the trial continued. I realised i was very tense during the first half of the court session. Like i didn't dare to move/ make any noise (ie, cough) cos the room was really quiet apart from the cross-examination taking place and the judge has a very clear view of us. But after the break the mood lighten up a bit (possibly because the judge began talking/ questioning rather than just sit with a stern face). This time the lady (representing herself), questioned one of the 3 witnesses, the agent whom she bought the policy from almost 10 years ago. The exchange was pretty interesting, especially when the judge got a bit impatient. Both the lady and the witness got screwed by the judge a few times. Could tell sharan was trying not to smile. Alvin and i were too intrigued to hide our smiles and edy just sat there poker-face. I think HP giggled at one part when the lady said sth wrongly lol. But the lady did ask a few smart questions and the judge was visibly impressed. Trial continues on monday. Can't wait to see how this case progresses!

Met tsao, nick, mel and walt at cathay after that for kfc and army talk hahaha. Jo joined us pretty late. But she didn't miss out much. After all it was just army talk and we've heard it/ are gonna hear it for at least another 2 years (walt and ben enlisting this and next year).
Me/Jo: "When will all this army talk end?!?!"
Nick: "NEVERRRR!"
Okay. Time to Keblakan puseng and japat jalan. Hehe.
